Surfer SEO is an SEO content optimisation tool that is repositioning for AI search. It pairs AI Tracker with its Content Editor, Surfer AI articles and Auto-Optimize, and turns gaps and drops into a task list sorted by expected visibility impact.
Teams usually leave for practical reasons. The Standard plan tracks 25 prompts a week on ChatGPT only. Content Score, SERP analysis and topical maps need medium SEO knowledge. Surfer doesn't publish automatically, and for off-site work it shows mention gaps and links to placement partners rather than doing outreach.
Leaving means giving up a full MCP server. Surfer also starts at US$49/month billed yearly. If you write at volume for Google and want a content score inside WordPress, Google Docs or Contentful, Surfer is still the better choice.
Best for: early-stage teams and marketing generalists scaling up without a technical SEO specialist.
What it is: We built Geodde to get B2B SaaS companies cited in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Mode. Geodde answers your buyers' questions in AI search with AI-assisted content built from your own experts' knowledge.
Also worth knowing: Geodde is not built for large-scale prompt monitoring.
Pricing (checked October 2026): Professional is US$189/month and Scale is US$499/month, self-serve, with a 14-day trial and 10 seats. After Search is priced on enquiry.
Choose it if: you're an early-stage team, or one marketer scaling up, who needs content that gets cited in AI search rather than another content score. Add After Search if you want the strategy and execution done with you.

What it is: Clearscope grades drafts on topic coverage and repositioned as "a Discoverability Platform" in October 2025.

MarketMuse is a content planning and optimisation tool acquired by Siteimprove in late 2024. It builds a personalised roadmap of what to create or update, and it focuses on Google search rather than tracking AI answers. It is self-serve, needs medium technical SEO knowledge, has no off-site features and exports copy for publishing. We found no MCP server. Prices are not published, so you start with a demo or free trial. Choose it if you plan content by topic authority for Google.
Semrush is an SEO suite for scale-ups through enterprise. AI search starts on the Starter plan at US$199/month, covering ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini, and the Content Toolkit publishes to WordPress. It is self-serve and needs high technical SEO knowledge. Off-site work runs through a separate AI PR Toolkit, and its MCP server is read-only. Choose it if you already run SEO in Semrush.
Surfer remains the better choice if you write at volume for Google and want a content score inside WordPress, Google Docs or Contentful at a lower entry price.
