The best MarketMuse alternatives are Geodde, Surfer, Clearscope, Frase, NeuronWriter, AI Growth Agent, Content Harmony and Semrush. We make Geodde, and we say plainly where another tool fits better.
Disclaimer: The information in this article comes from our own research into each product, carried out in October 2026. Pricing, features and plans change. Before you make a decision, check each product's own website and speak to the vendor directly to get the most accurate and up-to-date information.
Siteimprove agreed to acquire MarketMuse in October 2024. The site footer reads "© 2026 MarketMuse, Inc.", and the blog's most recent post is dated September 2025, with none of the recent posts covering AI search. Prices have been removed from the pricing page, so you now need a demo or free trial to see them. Plans cap at five users and one site inventory. SSO, SOC 2, an API and custom contracts are not mentioned.
MarketMuse's workflow stops at briefs. Its FAQ says it "is not the tool to help you manage or change your content directly", and content moves to your CMS via a copy-and-paste button. It does not track AI answers, and any AI search features from the owner sit in Siteimprove rather than in MarketMuse itself. Support is self-serve only; no onboarding, CSM or service tier is listed on the pricing or home pages.
MarketMuse is still the better choice if your team already relies on its topic authority scores, personalised difficulty ratings, SERP X-Ray, heatmaps and content clusters, and you have writers on staff to act on the research. Its approach to topic modelling and competitor gap analysis is thorough, and those features have not changed under Siteimprove ownership.
We scored each tool on eight criteria:
Best for: Early-stage teams and marketing generalists scaling up who need content that earns AI citations, without a technical SEO specialist.
What it is: Geodde is a content execution platform that identifies the questions your buyers are asking, builds AI-assisted content from your own experts' knowledge, and tracks whether AI engines cite it. It follows a prescribed playbook rather than leaving strategy to the user.
Also worth knowing: Geodde is not built for large-scale prompt monitoring. Teams that need to track thousands of prompts across many clients will find specialist monitoring tools better suited to that task.
Pricing (checked October 2026): US$189/month (Professional) or US$499/month (Scale), self-serve, with a 14-day trial and up to 10 seats. After Search is priced on enquiry.
Choose it if you are an early-stage company or a marketing generalist scaling up without a technical SEO specialist, and you want content that earns AI citations rather than a tool that stops at a brief or a score.
Best for: Content teams that want live writing guidelines, AI tracking and some off-site insight in one product.
What it is: Surfer combines a Content Editor with scoring, AI-written articles, an AI Tracker and topical maps. It covers the full loop from keyword research to content scoring, with AI Tracker reporting visibility across several engines.
Also worth knowing: Entry plans are narrow. Standard tracks 25 prompts weekly on ChatGPT only, and Discovery tracks none. Agent Analytics (closed beta, October 2026) shows which pages AI crawlers visit and how often. "Surfy Agent", described as able to write, optimise and publish content, is listed as coming soon.
Pricing (checked October 2026): From US$49/month billed yearly. Peace of Mind is US$299/month. Enterprise is custom.
Choose it if your team already produces content at volume and you want live writing guidance, AI visibility tracking and off-site insight in a single product.
Best for: Writers who want real-time content grading, and teams that want content strategy services alongside the software.
What it is: Clearscope positions itself as a discoverability platform. It gives writers live term suggestions and a content grade inside Google Docs or WordPress, and tracks which of your pages AI engines cite.
Also worth knowing: Clearscope 2.0 (October 2025) cut the price of extra drafts and repositioned the product as a discoverability platform. An AI Cited Pages view shows which of your pages AI engines cite, by engine and prompt. Query fan-out data on every plan shows the web searches AI platforms run to build answers. Unlimited users and projects on every plan.
Pricing (checked October 2026): From US$129/month, monthly with no contract. Enterprise pricing is custom.
Choose it if your writers want live content grading inside Google Docs or WordPress, and you want the option of content strategy services alongside the software.
Best for: Teams that want content researched, written, audited and published automatically to their CMS, with full MCP access.
What it is: Frase describes itself as "the content operating system for AI search". It covers briefs, SERP analysis, AI visibility tracking, site audits and CMS publishing, all on every plan, with MCP access included.
Also worth knowing: Content Guard watches published pages and drafts fixes, which wait for approval by default, covering 10 to 300 pages depending on plan. FraseCMS hosting is free with every plan and includes WebMCP so AI assistants can read and act on hosted pages. Optional pay-as-you-go overages are available on Professional and Scale: US$4 to US$5 per extra article and US$0.20 to US$0.25 per extra prompt. AI crawler monitoring starts on Professional. The home page lists ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI as tracked engines; Claude appears on Scale and up. Enterprise includes SSO, SAML, an SLA, white-label reports and a branded client portal.
Pricing (checked October 2026): From US$49/month (US$39/month billed yearly), with a 7-day free trial and no credit card required. Enterprise is custom.
Choose it if you want content researched, written and published automatically to your CMS, or you want full MCP access to run the platform from Claude or another assistant.
Best for: Teams that want low-cost content optimisation with AI visibility tracking and MCP access.
What it is: NeuronWriter is a content optimisation platform that combines NLP-based writing guidance with AI visibility monitoring across four engines, and a full MCP server from its Gold plan upwards.
Also worth knowing: MCP and AI Agents and AI Visibility are both marked "NEW" on the site, with no launch dates given and no public changelog. The AI Readiness Audit checks whether GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot can reach the site, plus structured data, speed and HTTPS. Bronze and Silver plans lack integrations, API and MCP; teams need Gold (US$69/month) for those. Gold and up can use their own OpenAI key.
Pricing (checked October 2026): From US$23/month, top tier US$117/month. No enterprise or custom plan is listed.
Choose it if you want low-cost content optimisation with AI tracking and MCP access, and you are comfortable setting up your own keyword and prompt lists.
Best for: Mid-market and enterprise teams that want content planned, written and published for them, with no technical team required.
What it is: AI Growth Agent is a done-with-you content engine. Every engagement starts with a three-month pilot, during which the vendor's team personalises the model, sets up the blog and publishes the first article within a week. After that, the platform runs the playbook and the team manages by exception.
Also worth knowing: Blog MCP is the headline technical feature. The vendor says it invented Blog MCP and had clients running it in summer 2025. It sits in an agent readiness stack with Agent Cards, markdown served to AI bots, on-site AI search, llms.txt and JSON-LD schema. Pricing is a flat fee with no per-article, credit or prompt charges; everything else is included in every package. No plan names or figures are published on the site. The operator is Verba Tech Inc., doing business as AI Growth Agent, under California law.
Pricing (checked October 2026): No public pricing. The only route in is "Book a demo". A third-party directory (Capterra) lists a starting price of US$3,500 on a flat rate for mid-market and enterprise; billing period not stated. Verify directly with the vendor.
Choose it if you are a mid-market or enterprise team that wants content planned, written and published for you, with no technical staff required and a flat fee rather than per-article billing.
Content Harmony runs a keyword report, content brief and content grader workflow aimed at start-up to mid-market teams briefing writers at volume. Plans from US$50/month to US$799/month include unlimited users and projects and free onboarding and team training on every plan. Enterprise starts at US$1,000/month, with a dedicated CSM and early API access, behind a demo. AI search features are present but light: since March 2025, Keyword Reports show any Google AI Overview found in the SERP, with its cited URLs, in the Search Intent tab. There is no ChatGPT, Perplexity or other LLM tracking, and no brand visibility or citation monitoring. Technical SEO knowledge needed is medium: users choose keywords and work from SERP analysis, but no schema, crawler access or prompt sets are required. Off-site support is insight only and narrow: AI Overview cited URLs are visible for a single keyword at a time, with no tracking across keywords over time and no outreach. Briefs export to Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Notion or a shareable link; there is no native CMS integration or auto-publishing. MCP availability is not stated. Choose Content Harmony if your main need is detailed content briefs for a team of writers, and AI search visibility tracking is not a priority.
Semrush is a broad SEO suite for scale-up to enterprise teams that has added a dedicated AI Visibility Toolkit, an AI PR Toolkit and an AI site audit. AI search starts on the Starter plan at US$199/month; Advanced and Enterprise are custom and sold by demo. Technical SEO knowledge needed is high: you set up domains, target prompts and up to four competitors per engine, and act on AI site audit findings across the Content, Social and Traffic toolkits. The AI Visibility Toolkit measures visibility, share of voice, sentiment and prompt rankings for ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini; the guide suggests testing ChatGPT and Perplexity manually in an incognito browser. Off-site support is the strongest in this list: the separate AI PR Toolkit has a 600,000+ journalist database, AI-written pitches and sending from your own domain with follow-ups, and AI-Cited Media shows which outlets LLMs cite. The MCP is read-only: assistants can retrieve SEO, traffic and market data but not AI Visibility data, and not change anything. It works in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code. The separate Content Toolkit publishes articles to WordPress in one click through a plugin; the AI Visibility Toolkit has no CMS integration. Support is self-serve, with a free trial and a "Hire a Trusted Agency" directory rather than in-house execution. The full AI loop (AI Visibility, AI PR, Content) spans multiple paid toolkits and costs more than a single plan. Choose Semrush if you are already on its SEO suite, your team has SEO experience, and active AI PR outreach matters to you.
MarketMuse publishes no price; you need a demo or free trial to see it. Among the alternatives, NeuronWriter starts at US$23/month and Frase starts at US$39/month (US$49 billed monthly). Content Harmony starts at US$50/month and Surfer at US$49/month billed yearly. Geodde starts at US$189/month and Clearscope at US$129/month.
MarketMuse itself does not track AI answers. Of the alternatives, Surfer's AI Tracker covers Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity. Frase tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI (Claude on Scale and up). Geodde tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Mode. NeuronWriter tracks four AI engines. Clearscope shows which of your pages AI engines cite. Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit covers ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini. AI Growth Agent tracks Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity and others, with prompt counts not stated. Content Harmony shows Google AI Overview cited URLs for individual keywords only.
Yes. After Search is Geodde's services arm for AI search strategy and execution. It does the commercial research, technical fixes, content and reporting with your team or for you, and works on any CMS. It is priced on enquiry. AI Growth Agent is also sold as a done-with-you service, and Clearscope sells customised content marketing and strategy services on a fee-for-service basis.
Geodde has a full MCP: it reads prompt tracking, citations and the content roadmap, and can add prompts, create pages, generate content and stage edits for review. Surfer has a full MCP, generally available from October 2026 on qualifying plans. Frase has a full MCP on every plan, including the free trial. NeuronWriter has a full MCP on Gold and above. Semrush has a read-only MCP. Clearscope, Content Harmony and MarketMuse: not stated. AI Growth Agent has no customer MCP; a Claude plugin for customers is in development with no date given.
